DAY 1, Tuesday – Arrive in Portland
Arrive in Portland. Located at the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers, Portland is home to a lively downtown area with shops, restaurants, galleries, and museums. Transfer independently to the hotel. Afterward, leisure time to explore eclectic Pioneer Courthouse Square with its famous gourmet food carts, the city’s lively dining scene, and the friendly local pubs

DAY 2, Wednesday – City Tour of Portland, Columbia River Gorge
The morning tour of Portland accents this very “green and livable” city, with its charming streetcars and pedestrian friendly downtown. Continue to the spectacular Columbia River Gorge, a twisting river canyon 80 miles long, cutting the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range. Enjoy scenic viewpoints at Crowne Point Vista House and Multnomah Falls. Experience the exhilarating spray of this 611 foot-tall roaring cascade of icy water, and the power and beauty of nature up-close. Continue to Cascade Locks for lunch at leisure and view the cantilever Bridge of Gods that spans the river between Cascade Locks, Oregon and Washington State. This scenic area, where views of stunning waterfalls dominate the landscape is truly an astounding experience and a powerful geological wonder. Continue to Bonneville Dam & Locks and the Fish Hatchery for a visit of this huge hydropower facility. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Drink during an orientation meeting with your Tour Manager and fellow travelers, followed by a Welcome Dinner to celebrate your arrival to Portland

DAY 3, Thursday – Depart Portland, Willamette Valley, Newport
The picturesque drive from Portland passes historic towns and scenic bikeways to the fertile Willamette Valley, Oregon’s famed wine country. Here, discover the lush vineyards and farms tended by Oregonians passionate about growing the best grapes and freshest foods. Enjoy lunch with a vineyard tour and tastings at a nearby winery. Afterward, on to the Oregon Coast and the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, a majestic sentinel built in 1871 believed to be the area’s oldest structure. Arrive in Newport, a coastal playground nestled between the mountains, Pacific Ocean and Yaquina Bay, with its wondrous natural beauty and impressive fishing fleet. Time to relax at your hotel. Tonight, opt to explore the Bayfront area with its plethora of shops, art galleries, chowder houses, and seafood restaurants housed in turn of the century storefronts reflecting a bygone era

DAY 4, Friday – Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Travel to Medford
Incomparable scenery surrounds you on the drive along the rugged edge of the Oregon coast. This stretch of breathless coastline is marked by steep headlands, jagged volcanic outcrops, and spectacular scenery. Turn in any direction for striking views that will surprise and amaze you! Onwards to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America extending for 40 miles along the coast — the wind-sculpted dunes stretch approximately 500 feet above sea level. Ride on a dune buggy that takes you through this wild and untamed region. Later, continue to Medford

DAY 5, Saturday – Crater Lake National Park
A gorgeous drive this morning to Crater Lake in southern Oregon with its crystal-blue waters surrounded by cliffs almost 2,000 feet high, home to old-growth forests – one of the crown jewels of the country. Known as one of the “Seven Wonders of Oregon,” Crater Lake is the deepest in the United States. Explore the park which encompasses the caldera of Crater Lake, a remnant of a destroyed volcano, Mount Mazama, and the gorgeous surrounding hills and forests. Linger a while for independent discoveries before returning to Medford for an evening at leisure

DAY 6, Sunday – Depart for Eureka, Redwood National & State Parks
As you enter California, drive through the monumental Redwood National Park, home to some of the tallest trees on earth. In this unique park look for wildlife and learn more about the history of the park, designated a World Heritage Site. After lunch on your own, travel toward Eureka, California’s lumber center on the edge of giant Humboldt Bay. Here, you can see picture-perfect Victorian architecture, including the ornate Carson Mansion, former home of a lumber baron, and the newly revitalized waterfront

DAY 7, Monday – Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Travel to San Francisco
Depart Eureka and continue to the majestic “Avenue of the Giants,” a quiet road that winds through some of the world’s most spectacular panoramas of ancient redwood trees. Then, arrive at Humboldt Redwoods State Park, the largest redwood park in California, encompassing over 17,000 acres of ancient old-growth coastal redwoods. At Founders Grove, see the tree commemorating founders of the “Save the Redwoods” movement and the fallen Dyerville Giant, once the tallest tree in the world. At the Humboldt Redwood Interpretive Center, learn more from the knowledgeable staff, interactive displays, and wildlife exhibits. Lunch is at leisure en route to San Francisco, the stunning “City by the Bay.” The rest of the day is yours to discover this endlessly fascinating city on your own

DAY 8, Tuesday – City Tour of San Francisco
A scenic morning drive takes you to the historic Presidio. This inspiring setting with its spectacular vistas was home to native people for more than a thousand years. Transformed by the U.S. Army from windswept dunes to a military post, this area is now a part of the magnificent Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Returning to the city, admire views of elegant Nob Hill, bustling Union Square, Chinatown and Ghirardelli Square. Look out over shining Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz Island, and stop at Twin Peaks for panoramic views. Remainder of the day is free to explore San Francisco, at leisure. Tonight, gather for a Farewell Dinner with your Tour Manager and fellow travelers
