Entry and Visa information – Peru
For most Australian and New Zealand passport holders you will not require a visa for travel to Peru.
Visas
If you’re visiting for tourism, and less than six months, you don’t need a visa. Permission is granted on arrival. You can’t extend this period. In other circumstances, you’ll need a visa.
Visa and other entry and exit conditions (such as currency, customs and quarantine regulations) can change at short notice. Contact the Embassy of Peru for up-to-date information.
If you’re travelling or transiting through the United States, you must meet US entry/transit requirements. Check your visa requirements with a US Embassy or Consulate well in advance of your travel. More information: United States of America.
Entry stamp
You must get an entry stamp in your passport at border control, even at land borders where immigration offices are hard to find or not always open.
If you don’t get an entry stamp on entry you need to apply for one from the immigration office in Lima (National Superintendent of Immigration) as soon as possible. This process could take several weeks. If Immigration officials decide not give you an entry stamp you will have to apply for an expulsion order before being allowed to leave the country. This could also take several weeks. You may be barred from re-entry into the country for up to 5 years and/or fined.
Only cross the border at official checkpoints and make sure you get an exit stamp from the country you’re leaving.
If you lose your passport or it’s stolen, you must get an entry stamp on your replacement passport. Get this from the National Superintendent of Immigration or at Lima’s Jorge Chavez airport.
